White River Lodge is situated on a level bench some 30 feet above the water. This saddle of land is covered with evergreens, maples, oaks and beautiful white birch trees. A “bottomless” spring pond with an artesian well greets you as you drive up to the lodge site. It is an idyllic spot.
The pine-sided, 1 BR home feels at one with its forest setting. The home features a fireplace and a wood stove as well as a gourmet kitchen triangle with a cooking island and built-in spice wall. The dining area provides an open division between the kitchen and the glassed-in living room. Lovely diagonal views of the outdoors stretch across the living area and bring the sensation of outdoors inside. Skylights in the bathroom add more natural light and expand the boundaries of this space. The main entrance in to a small foyer opens to the left into an office. Sliding doors from the office lead to a patio with a hot tub overlooking the beautiful spring.
There is a thoughtful complex of outbuildings, including a heated, studio and bunkhouse with a deck that faces the river. It sleeps 6 and has a luxury privy. A brick courtyard separates the house from the 2-car garage, potting shed and small greenhouse. There is also a 48 x 40 framed building shop. In-floor heat is installed here, but, at present, it is not hooked up to a boiler. This building can hold at least 6 cars and boats and lawn and snow equipment. Lots of storage!
What makes this property a “Lodge” is its sporting location – both excellent for fishing and hunting. There are 8 acres in all with 1,000 ft. of White River frontage. Fly-fishing is the sport of choice on the White, known for its hex hatch. Other trout streams are close by including the Long Branch and the world famous Bois Brule. Many great fishing and boating lakes dot this area, too – the Pike Chain (5 lakes and 890 acres of water) is 5 miles away; access to 180-acre Delta Lake is about 2 miles from the Lodge. The Chequamegon National Forest touches portions of the road that borders this property, and it is only a few miles to 1,000’s more acres of National Forest and public hunting land.
Supplies, gas, groceries, banks and post offices can be found in Drummond and Iron River - both about 9 miles away. Treat yourself and your hunting or fishing gang to the Delta Diner 3/4 miles from the Lodge. The June 2010 issue of Wisconsin Trails magazine featured the Diner as one of the 10 best diner eateries in Wisconsin! They have great breakfasts, soups & sandwiches, malts and homemade fries. It's MMMM MMMM Good!
This White River Lodge is also appealing as an efficient, year round home. Lush land, beautiful gardens, artist’s delight, hobby workshops and the great north woods in all directions! There is unlimited charm to this little piece of heaven.
